April 2021 | Celebrating LGBTQ2S+ Voices in Peel Schools during the Pandemic: CANVAS Arts Action Programs is fostering inclusion in the PDSB through the digital #SpeakOUT Symposium

“Last week students and faculty attended the Canvas Speak Out Symposium, a free digital event celebrating LGBTQ2S+ inclusion programming… Similar to the visual arts, poetry is another way that we can creatively express ourselves and our deepest feelings. Spoken word poetry empowers us to explore and celebrate our identities and experiences. So, we thought we would share this piece of artistic expression from the symposium with all of you. This poem is about love which is something we all use a little more of especially at this time in our lives.” - The York School Flash

June 2020 | Celebrate community and self expression with an LGBTQ2S+ empowerment story in the new series - The D Cut | A partnership between CANVAS Arts Action Programs and Dove

“In addition to The Dove Self-Esteem Project, Dove also partners with CANVAS Arts Action Program, a registered non-profit organization with the mission to prevent homophobia, transphobia and gender-based sexual violence in support of LGBTQ2S+ youth. Along with academic partners Anna Ciao, Assistant Professor at Western Washington University, and Tiffany Brown, Assistant Project Scientist at the University of California, the Dove Self-Esteem Project are developing programming that serve LGBTQ2S+ youth and deliver an educational impact while including gender inclusive language, intersectionality and tie in concepts of gender exploration and celebration to promote an open and honest dialogue regarding body positivity in the LGBTQ2S+ community.” - Patti Summerfield, Media in Canada
